News that's long overdue [21 Feb 2007|08:14pm]

gunslingerm
Oh, where has the time gone? =)

I've been distracted with schoolwork lately and have put off updating, so I guess that's the answer.

Anyway, some metal news from the guys . . .
Stratovarius goes into the Sonic Pump Studios on Feb. 25th for beginning recording the infamous "R....R...." album! Release date is expected sometime late 2007/early 2008.
Kotipelto's third solo album Serenity is to be released on April 11th of this year. In addition to that, Koti has been busy promoting his album. He appeared at the High and Loud table on both days of the Finnish Metal Expo. On Saturday, he performed a mini-gig singing two songs, "Sleep Well" and for the first time live, "Once Upon a Time". (There are wonderful pics of this at the Kotipelto Forum taken by some personal friends of mine. Feel free to check them out!)
Also, Kotipelto will be hosting the Headbanger's Ball on Finnish MTV. Rock on, Timo! \m/
I hope I'm not forgetting something important. I'll update this when I have more sleep.

Stratovarius @ Wacken, Kotipelto Single Released [21 Jan 2007|04:06pm]

gunslingerm
Hello, everybody!

It's been a while and I should have posted this sooner, but here's some Strato news.

Stratovarius has been confirmed to play in the 2007 Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany! \m/

Singer Timo Kotipelto released his single "Sleep Well" exclusively in Finland, which features the song "Sleep Well" (also available on the Finnish film "Vares 2" soundtrack) and an "alternative language version" of the song "Te Amare" - a love song he sings entirely in Spanish. It entered the Finnish charts at #5. Congratulations, Timo!

I have the single myself and it is very nice! The video of "Sleep Well" is linked in my previous entry. As for "Te Amare", it is a surprisingly varied track, vocally. Kotipelto's singing is strong, yet very tender for the ballad. I recommend you find it!

Rock on,

KOTIPELTO single and video "Sleep Well" [14 Dec 2006|08:37pm]

gunslingerm
Hello, fellow fans!
As you may know, Timo Kotipelto has a new video out. The song "Sleep Well" will be featured on the soundtrack of a new film in Finland called "Vares 2".
You can view the video in many places. Here is where I found it if you are interested in reading some Finnish. Don't worry - it is easy to navigate! There are two versions where one is edited for violence. I haven't figured out how to view that one yet, but the edited one can be found in the lower right-hand corner and it will go smoothly.
If that looks like too much trouble, go to the intro page to the official KOTIPELTO website or even youtube. Select your weapon of choice. Be warned! The video and song are addictive and catchy as hell!!! I've watched it 13 times now . . .
The KOTIPELTO single "Sleep Well" will be released in Finland ONLY on January 10th. I'd love to get this, myself, so that is an early birthday gift idea for one of you. =)
   Rock on! \m/

Some news inside and outside of the Strato circle [26 Nov 2006|10:52pm]

gunslingerm
Here are some excellent pictures from Strato's performance at B.B. King's in October during the North American tour. Enjoy!
Beyond Ear Candy

You can also read a very good interview (given by AMBR) with Timo Tolkki here.

In other news, Timo Tolkki has recently posted in his myspace blog that he is traveling to Spain for three weeks to help Infernoise with production. It will be mixed at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland. Meanwhile, Timo Kotipelto and Jens Johansson will work on the infamous "RR" album back in Helsinki. When Tolkki returns, there will be more work on the record. Strato's new album is projected to be completed in late 2007 or early 2008. Before then, Tolkki leaves again for Italy to produce for Vision Divine's next album.

As for Timo Kotipelto's third solo release, it is expected to be mixed in February 2007 (I think!).

Meanwhile, former bassist Jari Kainulainen's band MESS performed in Finland to a good crowd. We wish you the greatest success, Jari! \m/

Concerning the music scene of Finland, the loss of pop musician Juice Leskinen was addressed by Strato's own Lauri Porra.

This news is care of MetalGod of myspace:
STRATOVARIUS bassist Lauri Porra has issued the following message:

"Yesterday Juice Leskinen, one of the great figures in Finnish popular music, passed away. I had the honour to work with him on the album 'Senaattori ja Boheemi' (2004), which was his last studio album. I also played a small tour with him and Mikko Alatalo, which is documented on a live double album and DVD called 'Klassikoiden Ilta' (2005). He was always very kind to me, always very cheerful and witty. I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to have known and worked with him. A true legend whose work will live among us Finns forever. Godspeed Juice!"

Let's hope I got TT's schedule correct. Let me know if there are any mistakes!

Take care this holiday season, and rock on.

Between essay writing and surfing the net I found this: [13 Nov 2006|09:20pm]

captain_laiho
[ mood | busy ]

STRATOVARIUS bassist Lauri Porra has posted an update on his current activities via his official MySpace page. A few excerpts from the posting follow:

"Returned home safely from STRATOVARIUS North-Central-South American tour [in late October]. 16 flights, 40,000 kilometers bunch on gigs and some beers with friends.

"The tour was great. In my opinion, the band has improved both playing and feeling-wise with every tour I have been with them. I got to visit some new countries, El Salvador and Venezuela. Both were incredible experiences which I will treasure for the rest of my life. Beautiful countries with beautiful landscapes. (Unfortunately, I'm too scared to leave the hotel in these countries; I've been reading Finnish foreign ministry's travel safety guides too much. Damn you fear.) El Salvador is also the only country where I have seen the security guards in front of the stage form their own mosh-pit :)

"[Began] mixing a filmscore [in late October], which I wrote for the next Aleksi Mäkelä movie, 'V2: Jäätynyt Enkeli'. It's a private detective thriller and a sequel to the movie 'Vares' which was a very succesful movie in Finland a couple of years ago. This is the first time I have written a score to a movie, which has been a longtime dream of mine. I hope it turns out alright. Check out the teaser with some of my music, and if you don't know Finnish enjoy a good example of my weird language spoken. Also another new thing for me has been to be the musical director in a music revue. I share the musical director duties on the Christmas revue 'Heavy X-Mas' with my friend and fellow KOTIPELTO member Tuomas Wäinölä. If you are in Finland and want to have a laugh and hear some good music, come down to see the show. More info [here].

"Speaking of Christmas. I play bass on the second Finnish heavy meets Christmas carols album called 'Raskaampaa Joulua'. Also again sung in Finnish. Check out the songclips at [this location]. Also recording bass for the new KOTIPELTO album and trying to get my second solo album done. The movie thing took so much energy I had to postpone solo stuff a bit. All of the music is written though, and I hope to get back to it as soon as possible."

Mess... [05 Nov 2006|09:44pm]

[ mood | full ]

Since this is somewhat Strato-related....
Here is a link to Mess' website:
http://www.messmetal.net/

...this is Jari Kainulainen's new band. If you remember, he was the former bassist of Stratovaius. Anyways, I went here and listened to some of the songs. Good stuff! So I highly recommend that you check out this website.
If you do check out some of their songs, comment or post with some feedback! It would be greatly appreciated. I want to know what you think of the music.

Best wishes!

~One o' your mods!

P.S....feel free to post whatever you want about Strato here. It can be pictures, comments, thoughts...a song you really enjoy. I don't really care. Just speak about Stratovarius (and related issues) here!

BUT! I must stress, no Tolkki bashing or I shall ban your ass. :)

Current Music: Stratovarius - "Black Diamond" (live)
Current Mood: anxious

Hello, everybody! =)

captain_laiho has asked me to help be a moderator with her on this community. I certainly would have joined without the position, had I known it was here! In any event, I'm glad to be here and I'll introduce myself.

My name is [also] Meg and I have been a Strato fan since 2002. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see a concert yet since I live in a very rural part of the US. But, I am still a great supporting fan. I'm mostly knowledgeable in Kotipelto. =) I'm very involved in his forum community, so I'll ask those guys if using their pics and reviews of albums and shows is okay then we can get some info in here.

If anyone is interested in a Kotipelto livejournal community, I would love to be a part of that. =)

Until then, I'm glad to be here and can't wait to meet some new people (and some old friends, too!).

Take care and rock on. \m/

This community has basically been dead for a long time now.
Stratovarius has recently completed a North American tour. Does anyone here have reviews, pictures or stories to share?

This is the most recent news taken from strato's homepage...

"Timo Tolkki is currently writing new material for the next album and has set up a myspace page where he sometimes adds blog entries. It is located at http://www.myspace.com/ttolkki."

(I forgot I was the maintainer of this blog)...but it's time to get this up and running once more.

Also, it should be mentioned that Jari has a new band entitled "Mess..." and you should check them out.
Kotipelto is working on his new solo album.

Rock on!

*joins* Right.

Let's see...I think I got into Strat at the beginning-ish of this year/end of last year, I forget which exactly, was definetley before Febuary 10th. Some guy in MSN chat reccomended them, I think, so I half-downloaded a live version of Legions (which is probably my favourite Strat song), didnt work, so I ended up with the studio version of Stratasphere. Loved it.

Uh..let's see...I've got plenty of downloaded stuff, the Infinite longsleeve Aliendolphin shirt, and I got 'Visions' in Germany when...and heres the climax...I saw Strat live! Up ye! I didn't enjoy the festival much at all, but Strat were the highlight as they played a lot I'd actually heard (Legions and Hunting High And Low live are just ownage, especially when I was standing there screaming the lyrics out and bouncing about like the Johannsson fanboi I am).

I've also got one of my friends well into Strat, he's got a few of the albums including Elements. Pt. 1 and...Infinite, I beleive. Also got him into Kamelot, but that's a story for another day.

Hello to all the first members of the community! [18 Nov 2003|12:53pm]

japanfreak
[ mood | cheerful ]

Thanks for joining everybody, y'all are awesome :D

I just wanted to lay down the RULES which stand for any of the communities I run, because without a few rules this place will suck. I've seen it happen to other communities...

1. All posts are about Stratovarius in some way. I will allow X-posts to advertise other communities since I do that as well, but if you want to post something like "The new Iced Earth song RULES!!!" then there are more appropriate communities for that.

2. Be civilized. Constructive discussion is encouraged, but bashing people and calling them "stupid" (and worse things) is not allowed. Everybody is entitled to their opinions nobody's opinions are better than anybody elses in this community.

3. No icon stealing. If you like somebody's userpic please ask them if it is OK if you use it too.

Alrighty, those are the rules... and I'm glad that's outta the way. Now, down to business!

My name is Bree, and I have been a fan of Stratovarius for nearly 3 years now. My first song was Million Light Years Away... and promptly after hearing it I went and bought Infinite. Ever since I have been hooked! :)

How did all of you come to love Stratovarius so much?
